The Scented Leopard may be a brand new adventure, but it is backed by years of research and experience. Meet Yvonne Chaney, owner of The Scented Leopard. Yvonne is also the owner of Amarillo Candle Company, a boutique Candle and Gift Shop that has been in business in Amarillo, Texas for 10 years. 

It all started with a “hobby” and a supportive husband. Yvonne had been managing in the food industry for many years when her husband Don asked her what her what dream or hobby she would like to pursue. Working 14-16 hours a day didn’t leave much time for a hobby but Yvonne had always thought of making candles. Yvonne describes her husband as a man who likes to “fix problems”, so Don bought her a candle making kit. For 6 years Yvonne worked a full time job, made candles in her kitchen and constantly participated in craft shows all over the Texas Panhandle. Word got around about her candles and people began leaving empty jars and containers on her porch for her to fill with wax.

Yvonne researched, studied and practiced her candle making craft and it took 3 years to perfect her candle “formula”. Through trial and error, she pinpointed the best type of wax, the best wick size and perfect ratio of wax to scent. Yvonne’s candles are made with soy wax from soy beans, not paraffin, making her wax 100% biodegradable. Her youngest daughter had over reactive airways as a toddler, which was a cross between asthma and allergies, so she was allergic to the chemicals in alot of candles. So besides a wax hardener, Amarillo Candle’s candles are all natural with no added chemicals such as whitening powder, UV inhibitor, color stabilizer and vybar, which enhances dye colors and fragrance and prevents bubbles. 

In 2014, Yvonne took the leap and decided to officially open her new candle shop. Throughout the years, Yvonne has added many new creations to her line including wax melts, room sprays, car sprays, leather car fresheners, body creme, sugar scrubs and laundry soap. Each one researched and created to Yvonne’s high standards in quality and presentation. With the massive growth of online sales, Yvonne came across the idea of expanding her reach and delivering her products straight to people’s doors with a subscription box! Therefore, The Scented Leopard was born. Yvonne and her daughter, Bethani, came up with the name and beautiful new packaging. The Scented Leopard will deliver new scents for you to explore with quality products that are beautifully packaged every month!
